BCCI Invites New Applications For Vacant National Selector’s Job Months After Chetan Sharma's Exit

The position has been vacant since February which was when Chetan Sharma had resigned after the string operation controversy.

The Indian cricket team is all set to enter a brand new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship after their second successive defeat in the summit clash at the Oval recently. Before the start of the 2023-25 cycle of the Championship, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited fresh applications for the post of the national selector on Wednesday. The invitation for applications comes four months after Chetan Sharma's exit as the Chairman of the Selection Committee post a controversial string operation.

Sharma had resigned from the post after the incident in which a news channel shared video footage of the former cricketer making revealations about the inside secrets of the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma. This was the former pacer's second stint as the chairman of the selectors but was a short one with his reign ending in two months.

Taking to social media, the Indian cricket board shared an official release mentioning the criteria for application for this role. As per this, the member of the Men's Selection Committee will select the senior national team for representation in Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is. In addition, the candidates applying for the vacant position need to fulfil the given criteria for their applications to be considered.

They should have either played a minimum of seven Test matches or thirty first-class matches or ten One-Day International matches and twenty first-class matches. In addition, they should have retired at least five years ago and no person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years will be deemed eligible for the this role.

Former India cricketer Shiv Sundar Das is heading the All-India Senior Selection Committee ever since Sharma's resignation with one post being vacant since the month of February.
