BAN vs SL 2nd Test: Sri Lanka Breaks India's 48-Year-Old Test Record

Sri Lanka's impressive total of 531 runs vs Bangladesh now stands as the highest team total in Test history without any batsman scoring a century.

BAN vs SL 2nd Test record: Sri Lankan cricket team posted a formidable total of 531 runs in their first innings on Day 2 of BAN vs SL 2nd Test at Chattogram. Notably, none of the Sri Lankan players managed to score a century in this innings. However, their collective effort resulted in Sri Lanka achieving a massive milestone, thereby surpassing Indian cricket team's 48-year-old record.

In the first innings of BAN vs SL 2nd Test match against Bangladesh, Sri Lankan team were bowled out for 531 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Kushal Mendis emerged as the highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka, scoring 93 runs off 150 balls. Kamindu Mendis contributed with an unbeaten innings of 92 runs in 167 balls.

Additionally, Dimuth Karunaratne scored 86 runs, while captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal contributed 70 runs and 59 runs, respectively. Nishan Madushka chipped in with 57 runs to further bolster Sri Lanka's innings.

In a notable feat, no Sri Lankan batter scored a century in the first innings, yet the visiting team posted such a mammoth first innings total. 

Sri Lanka's impressive total of 531 runs vs Bangladesh now stands as the highest team total in Test history without any batsman scoring a century.

The record previously belonged to India. Back in 1976, India reached 524/9 declared in the first innings of a Test match against New Zealand at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Remarkably, none of the Indian batters managed to register a century in that innings, marking it as the highest team total in Test cricket without a single batsman scoring a century.

After 48 years, Sri Lanka has now surpassed India's longstanding record.

Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the first Test in Sylhet by 328 runs to take 1-0 lead in the two-match SL vs BAN Test series.
