Rahul married Athiya who is the daughter of actor Sunil Shetty in a close-knit function on January 24 at Shetty's Khandala house. Both had kept their relationship private after dating for many years until they got married.
Earlier, stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya also lauded KL for his outstanding knock. He said, "I am really proud the way we played today. Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) did what he was supposed to do coming back after eight months away from ODIs. I enjoyed my bowling and batting, would have loved to finish it off, but the way KL (Rahul) and Jaddu batted, it was calming to those watching from the outside”.
Coming to the first ODI, Australia was asked to bat first and need up scoring 188 runs with the help of Mitchell Marsh’s 65-ball 81. Chasing down a total of 189 runs, KL Rahul alongside Ravindra Jadeja helped India clinch the game on Friday. India’s allrounder made an unbeaten 45 runs and portended with Rahul to make a 108-run stand for the sixth wicket. India are now 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series.
“Saw three wickets fall down early, Starc was swinging the ball well and when he brings the ball back in, he is a dangerous bowler. Just tried to play normal cricketing shots. Got a few boundaries away and that settled my nerves. I batted with Shubman, Hardik, and Jadeja. The talk was that there’s help on the wicket but we did not want to get into our shell and play out a certain bowler. We wanted to be positive and put the loose balls away. If we are good with out footwork, we could do well and it was fun batting with Jadeja,” KL said after the match.
