Andre Russell Says Goodbye To Cricket, Date Of Final Match Confirmed

Andre Russell’s international cricket journey will conclude with the opening two matches of West Indies’ five-match T20I series against Australia at home.

The ongoing turmoil in West Indies cricket shows no signs of settling. Adding to the growing list of setbacks, the team’s veteran all-rounder Andre Russell has announced his retirement from international cricket. The West Indies Cricket Board shared this major update via social media.

Following the announcement, fans were left stunned. Russell’s sudden decision, especially just before the 2026 T20 World Cup, has shocked the global cricketing fraternity.

Notably, this comes shortly after Nicholas Pooran also took early retirement at the age of just 28. The date of Russell’s final international appearance has been confirmed — he will play his last match in the upcoming series against Australia.

Andre Russell's final match

Andre Russell’s international cricket journey will conclude with the opening two matches of West Indies’ five-match T20I series against Australia at home.

The 37-year-old has been named in the squad for the series, and the first two games — both set to be played at his home ground, Sabina Park in Jamaica — will serve as his farewell appearances in international cricket.

The first T20I between Windies and Australia will be played on July 21 and second on July 23.

“Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life. When I was a kid, I did not expect to get to this level, but the more you start to play and get to love the sport, you realize what you can achieve. This inspired me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and become an inspiration to others,” Russell said in a statement.

“I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances. I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean.”
