CWG 2022: Jeremy Lalrinnunga Wins 2nd Gold For India In Weightlifting, Sets Games Record
Jeremy Lalrinnung Wins Gold: Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted140kg (GR) in Snatch and 160 in Clean and Jerk to set a new CWG record but unfortunately injured himself right after.
India At CWG 2022 | Lifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga Wins Gold: 19-year-old star weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga on Sunday won his maiden Gold in the men's 67 kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Lalrinnunga lifted 300kg to win Gold. He lifted 140kg (GR) in Snatch and 160 in Clean and Jerk event to set a new CWG record but unfortunately injured himself right after. This is India's fifth medal of the Games and second Gold medal. He wanted to lift 165 kg in his 3rd Clean and Jerk lift but failed to pull it off after injuring his shoulder in the process. The lifter looked in excruciating pain after injuring himself.

Jeremy made a Games record by lifting a total weight of 300 kg. The silver medal in the men's 67 kg category was won by Samoa's Nevo, who lifted a total weight of 293 kg. Nevo was eyeing gold and in his third attempt in clean and jerk, he tried to lift 174 kg, but failed.
Jeremy winning a gold medal in India's Commonwealth Games 2022 increased India's medal tally to a total of 5 medals including 2 gold, 2 silver and a bronze. India has won all these medals in weightlifting only. Olympics silver medallist Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy Lalrinnunga won gold for India in weightlifting, while lifters Sanket Sargar and Bindiya Rani won silver and Gururaja Pujari won bronze in their respective events. Talking about Jeremy's career, he won the 2018 Youth Olympics in the 62 kg weight category.
