Amit Phangal became the 6th Boxer from India to make it to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The flyweight boxer who competes in the 52 kg category defeated Carlo Paalam of the Philippines in the quarter-finals of the Asian zone Olympics Qualifiers in Amman. Phangan was the firm favorites to qualify for the Olympic Games after his performance in the World Championships a few months back where he won a silver medal.
Earlier, Satish Kumar became the fifth boxer yesterday to have secured the Tokyo Olympics 2020 Ticket. Satish who fights in the 91 kg category had defeated Otgonbayor Daivii of Mongolia. Satish won the bout by unanimous decisions of the referees. Pooja Rani, Vikas Krishan, Lovlina Borgohain and Ashish Kumar had also secured their berths for Tokyo.
The Asia / Oceania Olympic qualifiers event is going on in Amman at the moment, Jodan and few more Indian boxers including MC Mary Kom will be seen in actions later today and will have chances of securing a place in Tokyo 2020.
