377 And Counting: Novak Djokovic Equals Steffi Graf's Record For Weeks Spent As World Number One

Djokovic claimed the number 1 position in the ATP Rankings for the seventh time after his record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam win at the Australian Open 2023.

Serbian tennis superstar Novak Djokovic is all set to equal Steffi Graf's all-time record of spending the most number of weeks as the world number one. While Graf had spent 377 weeks at the top of the rankings during her career, Djokovic remains number one in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday which see him draw level with that number.

It is pertinent to note that the 22-time Grand Slam Champion Djokovic claimed the number 1 position in the ATP Rankings for the seventh time when he won his latest major title at the Australian Open, defeating Greek's Stefanos Tsitsipas in the finals to equal Rafael Nada's word-record tally of Grand Slam triumphs.

Tennis legend Boris Becker congratulated Djokovic on equalling Graf's historic record. The former world number 1 Becker took to social media to congratulate the Serb on the record.

Meanwhile, two tennis stars who have been World number 1 before did register wins in the last weekend. While Daniil Medvedev clinched the Rotterdam title, Carlos Alcaraz, returning from an injury which ruled him out of the Australian Open, also won in Argentina.

Medvedev's win, which sealed the 16th title of his career helped him return to the top 10 in the ATP Rankings. Meanwhile, Alcaraz also consolidated his second place in the rankings as he won the Argentine Open after spending close to four months out due to an injury.

Tsitsipas, who lost to Djokovic in the finals of the year's opening Grand Slam, is number 3.
