India's Fertility Rate Dropping, Will Dip Below 1.75 By 2027 As World Stares At Low-Fertility Future: Lancet Study

India's fertility rate is declining, and is expected to drop below 1.75 by 2027. The nation's total fertility rate is projected to become 1.29 and 1.04 in 2050 and 2100, respectively, the study said.

The total fertility rates in India in 1950, 1980, and 2021 were 6.18, 4.6, and 1.91 respectively. From 1950 to 1980, there was a 33 per cent decline in fertility rate in India, while from 1980 to 2021, there was a 58 per cent dip.
