India's Fertility Rate Dropping, Will Dip Below 1.75 By 2027 As World Stares At Low-Fertility Future: Lancet Study

India's fertility rate is declining, and is expected to drop below 1.75 by 2027. The nation's total fertility rate is projected to become 1.29 and 1.04 in 2050 and 2100, respectively, the study said.

India's fertility rate is declining, and is expected to drop below 1.75 by 2027. By 2100, over 97 per cent of countries and territories are projected to have fertility rates below what is required to sustain population size over time, according to a new study published in The Lancet. The average number of children that would be born to a woman if she were to live to the end of her reproductive age is known as total fertility rate.  The total fertility rates in India in 1950, 1980, and 2021
