When Is Lohri 2025?

According to the Panchang (Hindu calendar), Lohri is celebrated a day before Makar Sankranti. In 2025, Makar Sankranti falls on January 14, so Lohri will be celebrated on January 13, 2025. Beyond its cultural significance, Lohri is also associated with the harvest of Rabi crops, symbolizing prosperity and gratitude for nature’s bounty.

Significance Of The Lohri Bonfire:

The tradition of lighting a bonfire on Lohri is an age-old practice, akin to Holika Dahan during Holi. The Lohri bonfire is considered sacred, symbolising purity and positivity. According to the experts, the bonfire is dedicated to Surya Dev (Sun God) and Agni Dev (Fire God). The flames are believed to purify the environment and channel positive energy.

Offerings To The Lohri Bonfire:

People offer a variety of items to the Lohri bonfire, including peanuts, jaggery sweets like gajak and rewari, sesame seeds (til), and popcorn. These offerings are referred to as "charkha chadhana." Participants circle the bonfire seven times, praying for happiness and prosperity. Afterward, these offerings are distributed as prasad, fostering a sense of community and gratitude.

A Celebration Of Togetherness:

Lohri celebrations are incomplete without the rhythmic beats of dhol, accompanied by traditional gidda and bhangra dances. Families and friends come together, sharing the joy of the festival and savoring its unique traditions, making Lohri a truly memorable experience.
