Karwa Chauth Puja Vidhi

  • On this day, wake up in the morning and partake in Sargi as per your family tradition. After taking a bath and performing rituals, make the vow for the fast.
  • This fast is observed Nirjala, meaning without consuming any water, throughout the day. In the evening, sit near the Tulsi plant, light a lamp, and read the Karwa Chauth story.
  • Before the moon rises, prepare a plate and place some rice or chiwda (flattened rice) in an earthen karwa, adding some coins as a token of offering.
  • Also, keep a plate ready with shringar items. After the moon rises, begin the moon sighting and worship.
  • Perform tilak on all deities and offer fruits, flowers, and sweets. Include all shringar items in the worship and apply tilak.
  • Now, offer arghya to the moon, light a lamp in a sieve, and have a moon sighting. Look at your husband's face through the sieve, and then break your fast by drinking water offered by him.
  • Seek the blessings of all the elders in your home. Give the shringar items used in the worship and the karwa to your mother-in-law or another married woman.

Fast For Husband's Long Life

On this day, fasting women break their fast only after sighting the moon at night. According to belief, just like the Vat Savitri Vrat, observing the Karwa Chauth fast also grants husbands a long life and ensures a happy marital life. Additionally, women who observe this fast maintain their Akhand Soubhagya which means an everlasting good fortune.

Karwa Chauth is one of the prominent festivals in North India, celebrated in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar. On this day, special prayers are offered to Goddess Karwa, along with Lord Ganesha and Shiva-Parvati.
