Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2024:  Kaal Bhairav is considered the third Rudra incarnation of Lord Shiva. According to the Puranas, Lord Kaal Bhairav appeared on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Margashirsha. This year, Kaal Bhairav Ashtami will be celebrated on November 22. It is believed that Kaal Bhairav originated from Lord Shiva’s Rudra form at noon on this day. Kaal Bhairav is so powerful that even time, Kaal fears him, which is why he is also called Kaal Bhairav.

This year, Kaal Bhairav Ashtami will be celebrated with Brahma Yoga, Indra Yoga, and Ravi Yoga. On this day, devotees worship Lord Kaal Bhairav, the Rudra form of Lord Shiva. Observing the fast on Kaal Bhairav Ashtami brings the fulfillment of desired wishes. It is customary to worship Lord Bhairav with rituals, especially in the evening.

Devotees begin the day by taking a vow in the morning and then worship Lord Kaal Bhairav at night. This day is also known as Kaalashtami. The word Bhairav means 'the one who removes fear', and it is believed that worshipping Kaal Bhairav on this day helps eliminate all fears. Scholars suggest that this worship is performed at night, and it is recommended to also worship Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Kaal Bhairav on this day.

Kaal Bhairav Jayanti 2024 Time

The Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Margashirsha will begin on November 22 at 6:07 PM and end on November 23 at 7:56 PM. Since the worship of Lord Kaal Bhairav is performed during the night, Kaalashtami will be observed on November 22. On this day, the monthly Krishna Janmashtami will also be celebrated.

Auspicious Yogas On Kaalashtami

On this day, Brahma Yoga, Indra Yoga, and Ravi Yoga will be formed. Worshipping Lord Shiva's fierce form, Kaal Bhairav, during these yogas will help practitioners achieve freedom from all physical and mental distress.

The Date Of Shiva-Shakti: Ashtami

The ruler of Ashtami Tithi is Rudra, and it is traditional to worship Lord Shiva on this day, especially during the Krishna Paksha Ashtami. As both Shiva and Shakti influence this day, the worship of Bhairav becomes even more significant. Worshipping Lord Kaal Bhairav on this day helps eliminate negativity, fear, and unrest.

Diseases Are Eliminated

Bhairav means the one who conquers fear or defeats fear. Therefore, worshipping Lord Kal Bhairav removes the fear of death and all kinds of troubles. According to the Narad Purana, worshipping Kal Bhairav fulfills all desires. If a person has been suffering from a disease for a long time, worshiping Kal Bhairav can relieve them of that illness and other kinds of troubles. Kal Bhairav is worshipped in different ways and by different names across the country. He is one of the chief attendants of Lord Shiva.

Donation Of Woolen Clothes Is Considered Auspicious

This year, Kaal Bhairav Ashtami falls on a Saturday, and during the month of Agahan, it is auspicious to donate a two-coloured blanket. This will please both Bhairav and Lord Shani. Additionally, it will reduce the malefic effects of Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart. The Puranas mention that during the winter season in Agahan, donating woolen clothes is beneficial and earns the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Physical And Mental Troubles Are Alleviated

On this festival, there is a tradition of feeding dogs jalebi and imarti. Doing so pleases Kal Bhairav. Feeding barley and jaggery to cows on this day helps alleviate the troubles caused by Rahu. Additionally, donating mustard oil, black clothes, fried foods, ghee, shoes, slippers, brass utensils, or any items related to those in need helps relieve physical and mental troubles. Even sins committed unknowingly are eradicated.

Special Significance Of Night Worship

According to the Puranas, the worship of Kal Bhairav is performed during the Pradosh period, which is at sunset or midnight. Night vigils are kept, and worship of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Kal Bhairav is conducted. The black dog, which is Kal Bhairav's vehicle, is also worshipped. Various types of food are offered to the dog. During the worship, the story of Kal Bhairav is also read or heard.

Relief From Distress And Fear

According to the scriptures, all fears of those who worship Lord Kal Bhairav are dispelled, and all their troubles are removed by Lord Bhairav. He is a powerful form of Lord Shiva. It is believed that if a person worships Lord Kal Bhairav on his Jayanti, they achieve their desired accomplishments. Lord Kal Bhairav is also regarded as the deity of Tantra.

Importance Of Kal Bhairav Jayanti

Astrologers have stated that worshipping Lord Kal Bhairav frees the devotee from fear. His worship brings liberation from planetary and enemy obstacles.

Scriptures mention that for those who do good deeds, Lord Kal Bhairav is a benefactor, while for those who engage in unethical actions, he is a punisher. According to religious beliefs, anyone who harms the devotees of Lord Bhairav will not find refuge anywhere in the three realms.

Pooja Vidhi

  • On Kal Bhairav Jayanti, after taking a morning bath, make a vow to observe the fast.
  • Light a lamp in front of Lord Shiva and offer prayers.
  • The worship of Lord Kaal Bhairav is performed at night.
  • In the evening, visit a temple and light a four-faced lamp in front of the idol of Lord Bhairav.
  • Now, offer flowers, imarti, jalebi, urad dal, betel leaves, coconut, and other items. Afterward, sit on the same seat and recite the Kal Bhairav Chalisa.
  • After the worship is complete, perform the aarti and seek forgiveness for any mistakes, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Donate a two-coloured blanket to those in need during the Pradosh Kaal or midnight.
  • On this day, chant the mantra 'Om Kalbhairavaya Namah' 108 times. After the worship, offer jalebi or imarti as prasadam to Lord Bhairav. Also, prepare imarti separately and feed it to dogs.
