Seek the blessings of goddess Durga by visiting these Shakti Peethas, each holding profound spiritual significance in Hindu mythology.

Durga Puja 2024: Sharadiya Navratri, one of the most significant Hindu festivals in India, is around the corner. This vibrant festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga, where devotees celebrate the victory of good over evil. During Navratri, thousands of devotees throng divine shrines of Goddess Durga to seek her blessings. It is believed that the Goddess never disappoints her devotees, and she grants the wishes of those who come to her with pure devotion.

Historical Significance Of Shakti Peeths:

As per Hindu mythology, Goddess Sati's father, King Daksha, once organised a grand yajna where he did not invite her husband, Lord Shiva, as Daksha was displeased with him. When Goddess Sati asked about this, Daksha insulted Lord Shiva with harsh words. Unable to bear the humiliation, Goddess Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire.

When Lord Shiva got to know about this, he was overcome with grief and rage. He lost control over his emotions and began the Rudra Tandav. The Rudra Tandav is a dance by Lord Shiva in his Nataraj form, which signifies the destruction of the universe. As the Rudra Tandav threatened to bring devastation in the world, Lord Vishnu intervened and used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember Goddess Sati's body to make Lord Shiva see reason and ease his pain. Wherever these pieces fell, a Shakti peeth was formed, each being a significant pilgrimage site for Goddess Durga's devotees.
