Chinese Beetroot Dim Sum: A Tasty And Vibrant Recipe To Try
A vibrant and wholesome twist on classic dim sums, made with beetroot-infused dough and fresh vegetable filling for a colourful and flavourful dish perfect for everyday meals or special occasions.

(By Chef Ravinder Kumar)
Beetroot Dim Sum is a colourful and refreshing take on the classic dumpling, offering a blend of familiar comfort and a gentle modern twist. The use of fresh beetroot juice gives the dough a naturally vibrant pink colour that makes the dish stand out without overwhelming the traditional flavours people enjoy. The beetroot adds a mild earthy sweetness and a sense of lightness that fits beautifully with the clean and bright style of contemporary cooking. What makes this version particularly appealing is how approachable it feels. It maintains the simplicity of regular dim sums while adding a thoughtful touch of creativity that feels both inviting and achievable in any home kitchen, even for those who are new to experimenting with coloured doughs or healthier variations of classic recipes.
The filling, prepared with finely chopped vegetables like cabbage, carrot, beans and mushrooms, brings a satisfying mix of crunch and softness. These vegetables are lightly sautéed with common Pan-Asian aromatics to create a balanced flavour that feels warm, familiar and pleasantly savoury. A hint of ginger, garlic or even a touch of light soy sauce can deepen the flavour profile without taking away from the freshness that defines this dish. Each element stays true to the idea of keeping ingredients fresh, straightforward and full of natural taste. When the dumplings are shaped and steamed, the dough becomes soft and glossy, allowing the pink colour to gently shine through and creating an appetizing, cheerful presentation that feels perfect for both everyday meals and occasions.
Beetroot Dim Sum carries a sense of comfort and freshness at the same time, bringing together the fun of experimenting with colours and the ease of everyday cooking. Whether served as a starter, paired with a light broth, or enjoyed as a wholesome snack, it offers a combination of texture, aroma and visual appeal that feels satisfying, wholesome and just a little bit special.
