  • Pakistan government has declared a national emergency as rain-induced floods have so far killed 937 people, including 343 children, and left at least 30 million without shelter. Sindh Province reported the highest number of deaths as 306 people lost their lives due to floods and rain-related incidents from June 14 till Thursday, according to National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of the country.
  • Marsha Blackburn, a US Senator, is the latest US legislator to visit the self-governed island of Taiwan on Thursday, following a string of visits by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other US officials that has heightened tensions with China, news agency ANI reported. According to The Hill, when applauding US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's recent travel to Taiwan with 25 other Republican senators, she stated that Taiwan is the US's greatest partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • In an apparent effort to replenish troops that have sustained significant losses in six months of deadly combat and get ready for a protracted, exhausting battle in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised a significant expansion of his nation's military forces on Thursday.
  • Japan's national police chief has resigned from the post on Thursday taking responsibility for the fatal shooting of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a campaign speech last month. National Police Agency Chief Itaru Nakamura's announcement came as his agency released a report on how it failed to protect Abe's life on July 8 when he was assassinated in Nara in western Japan.

  • In a fresh jolt to the Congress, senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the party with sharp jabs at the Gandhis and the organisational leadership. In his resignation letter, he lashed out at Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. He also blamed sidelining of senior leaders and sycophancy for his exit. The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has been quoted as saying he would like to launch his party on his home turf.
  • Justice Ramana, who retires from office on August 26 upon attaining the age of superannuation, said that he took up the issues concerning the appointment of judges and infrastructure during his term and hoped that he stood up to the expectations of the legal fraternity.
  • Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais will take a call Friday on the Election Commission’s view on “disqualification” of Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an MLA, amid the rapidly changing political scenario in the state. The EC is believed to have told the governor that Soren should be "disqualified" as a legislator for violating electoral norms.
  • After being commissioned on September 2, indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant will be combat ready by May 2023. It will act as a deterrent amid China’s growing presence in the Indian Ocean region.
  • Chetan Dutta, the demolition expert who will press the button that will demolish the Supertech Twin Towers in Sector 93A, Noida on Sunday, said on Thursday that the mega implosion is going to be a "simple process". Supertech's illegal twin towers which are taller than Qutub Minar will become India's highest structures ever to be demolished in 9 seconds at 2.30 pm on Sunday.   • Eminem and Snoop Dogg are all set to make a return to the VMAs (Video Music Awards)! According to Variety, for Sunday`s MTV Video Music Awards, Eminem and Snoop Dogg will make a special appearance on the VMAs stage to play `From the D 2 The LBC`, a song that was inspired by "the universe of the Otherside metaverse."
  • The most awaited film of Sajid Nadiadwala in collaboration with Namah Pictures - ‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ starring Kartik Aaryan & Kiara Advani directed by Sameer Vidwans will be releasing on 29th June 2023.   • After much deliberation and anticipation, Olympic champion and World Championships silver medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra confirmed on Twitter that he will participate in the Lausanne Diamond League.
  • Indian Men’s doubles pair – Satiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty secured India’s 1st medal at the World Championships 2022 after defeating world number 2 – Takuro Hoki & Yugo Kobayashi of Japan in the quarterfinals. Satwik-Chirag secured India’s first men’s doubles medal at the World Championships. It was India’s second World Championships medal in doubles with Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa claiming the first way back in 2011 in the women’s doubles.
  • Cricket fans will be in for a treat when India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Dubai on Sunday. The Asia Cup will also mark the return of Virat Kohli to the Indian side. Kohli, who has struggled to score runs of late, was rested for the white-ball series against West Indies, and also the three ODIs in Zimbabwe. India, however, will miss the services of injured pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, while Mohammed Shami was not considered for selection.
