INTERNATIONAL NEWS
  • The 2022 Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to the French author Annie Ernaux “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory.”
  • At least 34 people were killed on Thursday in a mass shooting at a childcare center in the northeastern province of Thailand. Police said that at least 23 of them were children. Following the shooting, the assailant took his own life.
  • North Korea fired two ballistic missiles Thursday as it justified its recent blitz of sanctions-busting tests as necessary countermeasures against joint military drills by the United States and South Korea.
  • The gunmen launched an attack on the city of San Miguel Totolapan in south-western Mexico, killing 18 people and injuring three others. 
  • Jaishankar is on a week-long visit to New Zealand and Australia, during which he will review bilateral relations with the two countries during his separate discussions with New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Nanaia Mahuta and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

  • A Delhi court on Thursday sent Vijay Nair, the communication strategist of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to judicial custody till 20 October in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise police case.
  • In a fresh message to Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar, the Enforcement Directorate has told him to make himself available before the agency on Friday, October 7. 
  • Fifteen members of a mountaineering team which had gone missing after being hit by an avalanche at Draupadi Ka Danda peak in Uttarakashi district have been rescued, while 27 still remained missing a day after 10 bodies were recovered.
  • On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned against over four fever, cold, and cough syrups made by an Indian company, urging people to not use them. This comes after the death of 66 children in Gambia.
  • Three 'sadhus' thrashed by mob on suspicion of being child-lifters in Chhattisgarh.
  • Women's rights body asks Congress leader to apologise for comments on President Murmu
