Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed several prominent world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, to the Bharat Mandapam, the G20 Summit venue.

Against the backdrop of the replica of the Konark Wheel, symbolising time, progress, and continuous change, in Odisha's Sun Temple, Modi greeted the world leaders warmly with handshakes.

One of the notable developments on the first day of the G20 Summit was the inclusion of the African Union, a bloc representing 55 nations, into the G20. This decision came after all member countries accepted Prime Minister Modi's proposal, extending the G20's reach to the key bloc of the Global South.

Prime Minister Modi also held bilateral talks with Japan's Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. The leaders reviewed the progress of India-Japan bilateral relations, emphasizing cooperation in connectivity, commerce, and other sectors.

India made a groundbreaking announcement at the G20 Summit with the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance. Prime Minister Modi called upon G20 nations to join this initiative and appealed for a global increase in ethanol blending with petrol to 20 percent.

In a move aimed at addressing environmental concerns, Prime Minister Modi proposed the launch of the G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation. He urged world leaders to collaborate on a Green Credit Initiative as part of the global effort to combat climate change.
