UK Woman Ends 20 Years Wait For 'Mr Right', Marries Herself In Grand Celebration
Wilkinson spent £10,000 which is nearly Rs 10 lakh, for the wedding held at Harvest House in Felixstowe, a port town in Suffolk.
A 42-year-old woman from the United Kingdom decided to marry herself and host a grand celebration for friends and family. Sarah Wilkinson, who has reportedly been waiting for the last 20 years to get married to the 'right partner' decided not to wait any longer and got married to herself in a grand celebration. Wilkinson spent £10,000 which is nearly Rs 10 lakh, for the wedding held at Harvest House in Felixstowe, a port town in Suffolk, reported the BBC.
Wilkinson celebrated by saying 14 vows to herself in front of 40 of her closest family and friends. "It was a lovely day for me to be centre of attention," she said speaking to the media outlet.
Wilkinson turned 40 during the pandemic and had bought a diamond engagement ring. Since then, she had the idea in the mind to get married to herself, instead of waiting for "Mr Right”.
"The ceremony wasn't an official wedding, but I had my wedding day. I think you get to the point where you think, 'I might not have this with a partner by my side, but why should I miss out?' That money was reserved for my wedding; it was a case of it's there, and why not use it for something I want to do?," she said further to the outlet.
The ceremony organised on September 30 saw 40 of the bride's closest family and friends attend the function, and another 40 people in the evening at the tennis club opposite.
"No-one stopped smiling all day and everyone said what an amazing time they had," said Wilkinson.
"Nearly every single one said 'that's such a Sarah thing to do'," she further added.
