Five-Year-Old Goes On Shopping Spree, Orders Toys Worth Rs 2.47 Lakh From Mother's Amazon Account: Report

The mother said she was astonished when she received an email on March 27 that said her package had shipped, as indicated by the station.

A 5-year-old girl in Massachusets used her mother's Amazon account to purchase more than $3,000 worth of toy cruisers, toy jeeps, and cowgirl boots, her mother said, reported NDTV. When Lila Nunes used her phone to make the purses on the way home, Jessica Nunes told WJAR in Boston that she thought she was playing video games on it. Nunes said she was astonished when she received an email on March 27 that said her package had shipped, as indicated by the station.

The mother, Jessica Nunes told NBC 10 News, "I go on my Amazon order history to find that I, or somebody, had ordered 10 motorcycles, a Jeep and 10 pairs of cowgirl boots women's size seven."

"The bikes and the Jeep came out to about $3,180. The boots alone were about $600."

The young girl selected her toys and boots by clicking "Buy Now" in the Amazon app, according to the mother.

Nunes claimed that she was able to cancel half of the orders for motorcycles and boots from WJAR, but she was unable to stop five motorcycles and one children's Jeep that had already shipped.

How did Lila do it? "You just press a few buttons and then the brown button," Lila told CNN affiliate WJAR.

"(The kid's motorcycles) were actually nonreturnable, originally, but I had reached out to Amazon at 2 o'clock in the morning and I was like: 'Please, is there anything we can do?!" Nunes told the outlet.

Nunes stated to WJAR that rather than punishing her daughter, she intends to use this experience as a learning opportunity.

"I did tell her that maybe if she you know, acts right, she behaves and she does chores around the house that we can get her a bike that's more geared towards her age range," Nunes said.

This isn't the first time a child has spent a lot of money without their parent's knowledge on video games or shopping apps. There have been reports that children used their parents' electronic devices to spend money on a variety of items, resulting in enormous debt and issues with anger.
