'Why No Action On Complaint': Manipur Governor Pulls Up Top Cop Over Viral Video Of Women Being Paraded Naked

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday pulled up the Director General Police of the state over the viral video of two tribal women who were paraded naked in Kangpokpi district.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday pulled up the Director General Police of the state over the viral video of two tribal women who were paraded naked in Kangpokpi district in Manipur which has been the epicentre of ethnic violence since May 3. "I can't believe that this type of incident happened in my state. I want to know why no action was taken on the complaint of the women,” said the Governor Uikey as per a report by news agency ANI.

“I called the DGP of my state today. Never in future, any person should have the courage to commit these types of crimes against women," she added.

Nationwide outrage erupted after the video, shot on May 4 surfaced on social media on Wednesday. Following the widespread condemnation from across the spectrum, Khuyrum Heradas, 32, was arrested from Thoubal district after police identified him from the video.

A case of abduction, gang rape and murder was registered at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district against unidentified miscreants.

The video started doing the rounds ahead of a protest march announced by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) on Thursday.

"The despicable scene...shows men constantly molesting the helpless women, who cry and plead with their captors," an ITLF spokesperson told PTI.
