At least 13 people lost their lives in a fierce gun battle between two militant groups in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Monday, according to officials cited by news agency PTI. The clash unfolded at Leithu village on Monday afternoon. An official in the hill district revealed that a group of militants en route to Myanmar was ambushed by another faction of insurgents prevalent in the area, PTI reported. The clash resulted in a significant loss of life, with security forces discovering 13 bodies at the scene.

The official told PTI that the identities of the deceased are yet to be established, but initial assessments suggest they were not local residents.

Tengnoupal district, sharing a porous border with Myanmar, has been witness to heightened tensions and sporadic incidents involving militant groups.
