Army Jawan On Leave Abducted And Killed In Manipur's Imphal West

Manipur News: Unidentified armed miscreants abducted Sepoy Kom from his residence on Saturday and his body was discovered in Khuningthek village, situated in Manipur's Imphal East district

The lifeless body of an Indian Army soldier was discovered in Khuningthek village, situated in Manipur's Imphal East district, on Sunday. The soldier was identified as Sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom, a member of the Army's Defence Security Corps (DSC) platoon stationed at Leimakhong in Kangpokpi district. Sepoy Kom, a native of Tarung in Imphal West, had been on leave at the time of the incident.

"An IndianArmy soldier, Sep Serto Thangthang Kom (41), was abducted and later killed, by 3 unidentified miscreants, while on leave at Tarung, Happy Valley, Imphal West. He was deployed at DSC Platoon, Leimakhong, Manipur. He is survived by his wife and 2 children": PRO, Kohima and Imphal, Ministry of Defence informed on X.

According to news agency PTI, authorities reported that unidentified armed miscreants abducted Sepoy Kom from his residence at approximately 10 a.m. on Saturday. The sole eyewitness to the crime, his 10-year-old son, recounted that three men entered their home while he and his father were working on the porch, they said.

The armed assailants threatened Sepoy Kom at gunpoint, compelling him into a white vehicle before speeding away from the scene, officials disclosed, citing the young boy's account.

Throughout Saturday, there was no word on Sepoy Kom's whereabouts, leaving his family in distress. It wasn't until early Sunday morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m., that his lifeless body was discovered in Khuningthek village, east of Mongjam, within the jurisdiction of the Sogolmang Police Station in Imphal East. Officials further confirmed his identity through his brother and brother-in-law, who identified a single gunshot wound to his head.

Sepoy Kom leaves behind a grieving family, comprising his wife, daughter, and son. Officials have assured that the soldier's last rites will be conducted in accordance with the family's wishes, PTI reported. Additionally, the Indian Army has expedited the dispatch of a team to provide support and assistance to the bereaved family during this trying time.
