Manipur Cop Abducted By Meiti Group From His Residence Amid Gunfire, Rescued Later

ASP Amit Kumar, serving in the Operations Cell of Manipur Police, was forcibly taken from his residence in Wangkhei by members of the Arambai Tenggol group amidst gunfire.

New Delhi: Meitei activist organisation Arambai Tenggol abducted a Manipur additional superintendent of police Tuesday evening and he was rescued within hours after the force launched an operation swiftly, officials told news agency PTI. ASP Amit Kumar, serving in the Operations Cell of Manipur Police, was forcibly taken from his residence in Wangkhei by members of the Arambai Tenggol group amidst gunfire. Alerted by the gunshots, Kumar's father contacted him, prompting the officer to rush to the scene with a limited team.

Despite their efforts, the outnumbered police force was unable to prevent Kumar's abduction as the activists swiftly seized him and fled the area, PTI's report stated. However, responding promptly, Manipur Police mobilised their forces, initiating a successful rescue operation that ensured Kumar's safe return within hours.

Manipur: Internet Suspension Extended In Churachandpur

According to a recent order issued by the Home Department on Sunday evening, the state government, after assessing the current law and order situation in Churachandpur district, has opted to prolong the suspension of internet services, including mobile data and internet services accessed through VPN, across the entire revenue jurisdiction of the district until March 2. Mobile service providers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with this directive.

The initial suspension of internet services in the Churachandpur district was imposed on February 16 for a period of five days following a series of disruptive incidents. A mob had reportedly breached the district office complexes of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner, resulting in acts of vandalism and the torching of government properties, PTI reported.

Two individuals lost their lives during a clash with security forces when protesters stormed the mini-secretariat to demonstrate against the suspension of a head constable, prompted by a viral social media video allegedly depicting the constable in association with armed individuals.


Mobile service providers were also directed to ensure compliance of the order, it stated.The state government on February 16 ordered temporary suspension of internet services in Churachandpur district for five days after a mob entered the district office complexes of the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner and engaged in vandalism and torched government properties.Two persons were killed in a clash with security forces when a mob barged into the mini-secretariat to protest the suspension of a head constable after a purported video of him with armed miscreants went viral on social media, reported PTI.
