Man Tied To Electric Pole, Lynched To Death In Tripura Over Suspicion Of Being Cattle Lifter

A man succumbed to his injuries after he got mob lynched in Tripura based on suspicions of being a cattle lifter.

A 41-year-old man got lynched in Tripura by a group of villagers after they suspected him of being a cattle lifter. A police official said that two people have been arrested in this matter. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee while talking to news agency PTI said that a group of villagers detained the victim identified as Nandu Sarkar, a resident of East Chandrapur. He added that the group suspected him of being a cattle lifter and on Thursday they tied him to an electric pole and thrashed him.  

When the police were informed about this incident, they rushed to the spot and rescued the victim who was in critical condition. He was immediately taken to Ranibazar health centre where he succumbed to his injuries, said Chatterjee, as reported by PTI.

OC Chatterjee while talking to PTI said, "There were no injury marks on the body but he might have suffered fatal injuries internally that resulted in the death. We have registered an FIR and arrested two accused. An investigation has already been started to find the actual cause of his death and who else was involved in the crime."

PTI cited the wife of the deceased, Sonali Sarkar as saying that her husband was brutally assaulted by a group of people after they tied him to an electric post.

In another incident last week, a 32-year-old man was lynched allegedly by a group of ‘cow vigilantes’ after they suspected him of transporting beef in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, a police official said on Monday, as per PTI.

Based on a complaint, the Ghoti police arrested 11 persons and a case was registered on charges of murder.
