NCC Car Rally Concludes 20-Day Journey Across Northeast Emphasising Unity, Discipline

A National Cadet Corps (NCC) car rally, covering 3,400 kilometers across the Northeast, was successfully concluded at the army's Narangi cantonment in Assam on Sunday. The rally, which commenced on November 6 from Shillong, Meghalaya, marked the celebration of National Cadet Corps Day on November 26. A team of NCC officers and 76 cadets, traveling in 12 cars, traversed 44 districts in Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah flagged in the rally at the Narangi military cantonment in Assam’s Guwahati. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Indian Army’s Eastern Command Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC of 51 Sub Area Maj Gen PS Joshi, along with several civil-military dignitaries were present on the occasion, Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Guwahati, Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, said in a press release.  

A team of dedicated NCC officers and 76 cadets steered the course, and navigated over 3,400 kilometers, driving 12 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The rally started on November 6, 2023, from Meghalaya’s Shillong and has traversed through several northeastern states including Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, culminating in Guwahati on Sunday.

Throughout the journey, the convoy paused along the route and engaged with over 20,000 students from more than 200 schools and 140 colleges in a total of 44 districts of all these states, Lt Col Rawat said in the release.

Along the way, the NCC cadets also engaged directly with the local youth, immersing themselves in the wealth of social heritage, and promoting the importance of cultural exchange amongst different people from diverse regions. Eminent personalities, including senior officials, dignitaries, and NCC representatives, graced the occasion at various places, imparting their blessings and words of encouragement to the spirited cadets embarking on the remarkable journey. Their presence added prestige and honour to the event, inspiring the participants to uphold the values of leadership and camaraderie throughout the rally, Lt Col Rawat added.  

Lt Col Rawat further emphasised that the NCC car rally, beyond its adventurous spirit, embodies the ethos of the NCC, instilling in the youth the virtues of unity, discipline, leadership, and service. According to him, it provides a unique platform for the participants to learn and imbibe these values while fostering a sense of national unity and pride.
