US Report Slams Pakistan, Says India's Neighbour Doing Nothing To End Terrorism

Pakistan's Commitment: The US State Department claimed in its annual report that Pakistan has made "limited progress" on the commitment to destroy terrorist groups.

Pakistan's Commitment to Eliminate All Terrorist Groups: The US State Department told Congress in an annual report on global terrorism that Pakistan has made "limited progress" in its commitment to eliminate all terrorist groups operating outside its territory. According to 2020 Country Reports on Terrorism by US Department of State published on Thursday, the State Department acknowledged that Pakistan took steps in 2020 to combat terrorism financing and rein in India-centric terrorist groups (Terrorist Groups).

"The Pakistani government (Pakistani Government) also continued to support the Afghan peace process," it said. Pakistan made limited progress on the most difficult aspects of its 2015 National Action Plan to combat terrorism, especially in its commitment to eliminate all terrorist organizations without delay or discrimination.''

In February and then in November, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore convicted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed in several terror financing cases and sentenced him to five years and six months in prison. At the same time, Pakistan failed to take steps to prosecute other terrorists living on its soil, such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) founder Masood Azhar and Lashkar's Sajid Mir, one of the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the State Department said.

No action against Mumbai attack-

The Sindh High Court on April 2 overturned the 2002 sentence awarded to Omar Sheikh and three co-conspirators for the kidnapping and murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002. The report said Pakistan's Supreme Court had upheld the Sindh High Court's April verdict.

Pakistan remains in 'Grey List'-

"Pakistan did not take action against other known terrorists like Jaish founder and UN-declared terrorist Masood Azhar and Sajid Mir, the "project manager" of the 2008 Mumbai attack, the State Department said. "Pakistan has made a positive contribution to the Afghanistan peace process, such as encouraging the Taliban to reduce violence," the report said. Pakistan made additional progress towards completing its Financial Action Task Force (FATF) action plan in 2020, but did not meet all action plan conditions, and remained on FATF's 'Grey List'.''
