'US does not want to be policeman of Middle East' Trump defends decision of withdrawing troops from Syria

Trump said that the US does not want to play the policeman for the Middle East as the country has to incur heavy loss of lives and resources protecting “others”.

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump said that the US does not want to play the policeman for the Middle East as the country has to incur heavy loss of lives and resources protecting “others”. Trump’s statement comes a day after US announced its controversial decision to pull American forces out of Syria. Trump said that the US gets “nothing” but spends precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting “others “who do not acknowledge the US’ role in Syria. He took to Twitter and wrote: “Does the USA want to be the Policeman of the Middle East, getting NOTHING but spending precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting others who, in almost all cases, do not appreciate what we are doing? Do we want to be there forever? Time for others to finally fight....," he tweeted. He added: "Russia, Iran, Syria and many others are not happy about the U.S. leaving, despite what the Fake News says, because now they will have to fight ISIS and others, who they hate, without us.” He also put in words about the strength of the US military. “I am building by far the most powerful military in the world. ISIS hits us they are doomed! The US’ decision of withdrawing troops from Syria was met with widespread opposition on Wednesday. Trump had announced on Wednesday that the goal of defeating IS jihadists in Syria has been achieved he was ordering the 2,000 US troops in Syria to exit the country. In a tweet, Trump had said: ‘We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.’ In an earlier tweet, Trump wrote, “Getting out of Syria was no surprise. I've been campaigning on it for years, and six months ago, when I very publicly wanted to do it, I agreed to stay longer.” Trump’s decision runs on the contrary to the long-established US policy for Syria and the region and has miffed many of its international allies alike.
