New Delhi: Pakistan’s censor board has given clearance to the much talked about and politically sensitive film ‘The Accidental Prime Minister”, which is based on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s term during the UPA regime. The movie features Anupam Kher in the role of former PM Singh.
As per the Jayantilal Gada, the producer of the film, the movie will release in Pakistan on January 18.
In a statement he said that PEN Studios was happy to announce that its “one-of-a-kind political film” has got a green signal from the neighbouring country Pakistan.
Gada said in a statement "I always admired Imran Khan as a brave cricketer, and now I respect him as a Prime Minister, too. I'm also thankful to Pakistan's Censor Board chairman for approving our film," news agency PTI reported
The film, which is based on a book of the same name written by Sanjaya Baru, released in India on January 11. Baru was Manmohan Singh's media adviser when the latter was the prime minister.
The movie triggered a huge political outrage ahead of its screening with Congress and its supporters opposing its release at many places. Massive protests were triggered in various parts of India by Congress leaders alleging the party leaders have been shown in bad light.
In Kolkata, the protests turned aggressive as Congress leaders tore apart the screen of the movie theatre before the show, due to which the show had to be dismissed.
