Authorities in Russia have arrested a man for sending letter bombs to military officials with Moscow blaming Ukraine for the latest such attempted attack. 

Hundreds have been arrested by Russia for collaboration and acts of pro-Kyiv sabotage since it began its full-scale military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. 

According to the Federal Security Service, the 2003-born suspect had sent packages containing explosives to "military personnel and officials in the Moscow, Voronezh, Krasnodar and Saratov regions" earlier this month, reported AFP. 

The attack was foiled after security agents discovered the bombs before being opened during screening measures at Chelyabinsk airport.

"Five parcels containing the improvised explosive devices, disguised as perfume gift sets, were found," it added.

Authorities Blame Ukraine 

The Russian authorities blamed "Ukrainian special services" for the foiled attack saying it had recruited the suspect, a Russian citizen. The man was hired in exchange for a financial reward but stopped contacting him after he sent the bombs, the report stated. 

Kyiv does not typically comment on such foiled attacks, however, it has in the past targeted military officials it says are responsible for Russia's offensive.  

Anyone who has been suspected of acting on behalf of Ukraine has been relentlessly pursued by Russian security forces with courts often convicting those caught on charges of treason.

Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire 

On Wednesday, Ukraine said it was ready to accept a 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States following a meeting between Ukrainian and American officials in Saudi Arabia. 

“Ukraine accepts this proposal," said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, adding that they "consider it positive." "We are ready to take such a step," Zelenskyy said as he called upon the US to "convince" Russia to do so.
