Putin Speaks To Modi, Leaders Discuss Russia’s Presidency Of BRICS Along With Global Issues

Russian President Vladimir Putin called PM Modi, and the leaders discussed Russia's BRICS Presidency along with global issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter) about a positive discussion with Russian President Putin, focusing on the "Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership, and outlines plans for future initiatives and dialogue on regional and global issues, including Russia's BRICS Presidency".

“Had a good conversation with President Putin. We discussed various positive developments in our Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership and agreed to chalk out a roadmap for future initiatives. We also had a useful exchange of views on various regional and global issues, including Russia’s Presidency of the BRICS," the Prime Minister tweeted.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) released a statement affirming that the two leaders reviewed progress on bilateral cooperation, positively assessing recent high-level exchanges. The statement highlighted their commitment to developing a roadmap for future initiatives, reinforcing the India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership.

"The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. PM conveyed his best wishes for Russia’s Presidency of BRICS in 2024 and assured of India’s full support. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch," added the PMO statement.

In response, the Kremlin stated that the leaders expressed interest in enhancing mutually beneficial bilateral ties and discussed "the situation in Ukraine," as reported by Reuters.

It is to be noted that India, maintaining strong ties with Russia, has consistently supported its old ally, even as it maintains close relations with Western countries, including the US, and occasionally voices concerns about Moscow's military activities.
