PM Modi Meets Danish Counterpart, Says Hopeful Of Swift Conclusion Of Talks On India-EU FTA

The Prime Minister emphasized on ensuring a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who held delegation-level talks with his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen on Tuesday, hoped negotiations for India-European Union free trade agreement are concluded at the earliest.

The Prime Minister emphasized on ensuring a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.

Prime Minister Modi said that he discussed many regional and global issues, including India-EU relations, Indo-Pacific and Ukraine, with his Danish counterpart.

Speaking at the joint press meet with Prime Minister Frederiksen, he said the two sides share values of democracy, freedom of expression and the rule of law.

“We both have several complementary strengths together,” added Prime Minister Modi

The Prime Minister said there are huge investment opportunities for the Danish firms in India.

“There are more than 200 Danish companies operating in India in various sectors like wind power, shipping, consultancy, food processing, engineering etc. They are getting the benefits of increasing ‘ease of doing business’ in India and our macroeconomic reforms,” said Prime Minister Modi.

“There are many investment opportunities for the Danish companies and Danish Pension Funds in India's infrastructure sector and green industries,” he added.

Prime Minister Modi appealed for immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and to follow the path of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the crisis.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi took a private tour of the residence of his Danish counterpart in Copenhagen after he reached the Danish capital for a one-day visit.

“Walking the talk PM @narendramodi and @Statsmin PM Mette Frederiksen at Marienborg. The bonhomie between the two leaders mirrors the close ties between India and Denmark,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.
