PM Modi Conferred With Brazil's Highest Civilian Award By Prez Lula da Silva: WATCH
PM Modi received Brazil's highest civilian honour in recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing India-Brazil cooperation across key global platforms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday was conferred with Brazil's highest civilian award, the 'Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross' by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. This is the 26th international honour PM Modi has received from a foreign government since he assumed office in May 2014.
The honour was bestowed upon him in recognition of his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing the cooperation between India and Brazil across key global platforms.

PM Modi thanked the Brazilian President after receiving the honour. Addressing a press conference, he said: "I want to thank my friend, President Lula, for the warm welcome accorded to us in Rio and Brasilia... The President conferring Brazil's highest honour on me is not just a matter of pride for me, but for 140 crore Indians...President Lula is the chief architect of India-Brazil strategic partnership... I dedicate this honour to our friendship and his deep commitment towards India."
He went on to announce that the two nations have decided to take bilateral trade to $20 billion in the next five years. "Football is the soul of Brazil, while cricket is the Indians' passion. Whether the ball goes beyond the boundary or is in the goal post, a partnership of $20 billion is not difficult.," PM Modi said.

PM Modi also reiterated that there can be no place for double standards on terrorism, highlighting that both India and Brazil are of one view on the matter.
"We are of one view that all disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Our approach to the fight against terrorism is also aligned. There can be no place for double standards on terrorism. We strongly oppose terrorism and those who support it," he said.
The prime minister added that environment and clean energy are the two main priorities of India and Brazil.
"Growing cooperation between India and Brazil in the defence sector is a symbol of our deep mutual trust," PM Modi said as he pointed out at the growing relations between the two countries.
"We want the relationship between India and Brazil to be as vibrant as Carnival, as energetic as football, and as heart-connecting as the Samba, without long visa counter lines. With this spirit, we will work to ease contact between the people of both countries, especially tourists, students, sportspersons, and businesspersons," he said, expressing India's willingness in improving and deepening the bilateral ties with BraZil.
