Pakistan PM Imran Khan To Visit PoK Today, Likely To Address 'Legislative Assembly'
This comes at a time when India has rejected Pakistan's reaction to the steps taken in Jammu and Kashmir.
NEW DELHI: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is slated to visit Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday. According to Radio Pakistan, Khan is scheduled to address the "legislative assembly" on its Independence Day. This comes at a time when India has rejected Pakistan's reaction to the steps taken in Jammu and Kashmir.
India abolished Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Pakistan has, however, condemned and rejected the Indian government's decision and vowed to exercise "all possible options" to counter India's "illegal" and "unilateral" step. India has time and again reiterated that its decisions in the region are a matter of internal affairs.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier sought the international community's support over Kashmir, saying if it has the moral courage, it should end India's use of "greater military force against" the Kashmiris.
"Does the BJP govt think by using greater military force against Kashmiris..., it will stop the freedom movement? Chances are it will gain momentum," he had tweeted.
Pakistan formally called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss India's move to revoke the special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said. In video message, Qureshi said that he sent a formal letter to the president of the UNSC through Permanent Representative Maleha Lodhi to convene the meeting. Qureshi said that the letter will also be shared with all members of the UNSC.
