Outgoing UK PM Boris Johnson To Hold ‘Lavish’ Wedding Party At Official Residence: Report
The wedding party is being planned for July 30 and expected to be "a much bigger and more glamorous affair", the Mirror said.
Outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resigned on Thursday as the leader of Conservative party after several ministers quit his scandal-hit government, is expected to throw a wedding party to celebrate his marriage to wife Carrie Symonds at his official Chequers country residence by end of July, reported reuters quoting the Mirror.
Johnson, who will stay on as caretaker PM until October, will stay put in part to throw the ‘lavish’ party, the Mirror report quoted sources from Johnson's Conservative Party.
On being probed about the report, a Downing Street spokesperson said, "The Prime Minister has a strong sense of duty and will continue to serve his country until a new leader is in place, solely to continue his obligation to the public."
Apart from the official 10 Downing Street residence in London, British prime ministers have most often used Chequers, a 16th century English country house north of the capital for personal retreat, and also to host world leaders and at times to throw parties.
Johnson got married to Carrie in a low-key secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral in central London last year. The wedding ceremony took place amid raging coronavirus pandemic last year.
The wedding party is being planned for July 30 and expected to be "a much bigger and more glamorous affair", the Mirror said.
Johnsons have been keen on going ahead with the planned party for which several friends and family members had been invited, the Mirror quoted its two sources.
The plush 600-hectare estate Chequers is equal to the size of more than 1,000 soccer fields has 10 bedrooms and an extensive art collection. The historic house has been used by British prime ministers since the 1920s.
