5.1 Magnitude Aftershock Hits Near Mandalay In Myanmar After Massive Quake Killed Over 1,600
A 5.1 magnitude aftershock jolted Mandalay in Myanmar, the epicentre of the powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that killed over 1,600 people.

Panic gripped the streets of Mandalay on Sunday as 5.1 magnitude aftershock jolted the central Myanmarese city, just two days after massive earthquake killed over 1,000 people.
People screemed in the streets but there were no reports of further damage, reported The Associated Press.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the city on Friday killing at least 1,644 people and its effect rippled to Thailand where three people died in Bangkok.
The rescuers are on the ground searching for people with buckled roads, downed bridges, spotty communications, and a civil war posing as major hurdles in the operation.
Many of teh 1.5 million people in Mandalay were forced to spend night sleeping on the streets, either left homeless or worried that the continuing aftershocks might cause unstable structures to collapse.
As many as 3,048 people have been reported missing as rescuers are yet to reach many areas, said Cara Bragg, the Yangon-based manager of Catholic Relief Services in Myanmar. “It’s mainly been local volunteers, local people who are just trying to find their loved ones,” Bragg said after bring briefed by her colleague in Mandalay.
Operation Brahma
India launched Operation Brahma to extend support to the neighbouring country with search and rescue operations and emergency services. Under the multi-agency relief mission, New Delhi delivered 15 tonnes of essential materials and dispatched more aid by air and sea, along with rescue teams.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who assured assistance to Myanmar spoke with the country's junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and said India stands in solidarity with the people of that country.
"Conveyed our deep condolences at the loss of lives in the devastating earthquake. As a close friend and neighbour, India stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar in this difficult hour," the prime minister said on X after his phone conversation with the senior military general.
"Disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue teams are being expeditiously dispatched to the affected areas as part of #OperationBrahma," he said.
