Israel Strikes Apartment In Beirut In First Attack Within Lebanon's Capital; Biden To Speak To Netanyahu

Israel launched an airstrike on Beirut, killing at least two people. This is the first Israeli strike on the city itself since the October 7 Hamas attack.

Israel struck an apartment in Beirut on Monday in the first attack within the limits of the Lebanese capital as Israel escalated hostilities against Hezbollah in the region.

The strike hit the upper floor of an apartment building in the Kola district of Beirut killing at least two people, reported Reuters.

There was no immediate comment from Israel.

The Monday strike marks the first Israeli strike on the city itself, as opposed to the southern suburbs since the October 7 Hamas attack that triggered the war in a wider region last year.

The tensions are at an all-time high in the Middle East as Israel's increased frequency of attacks against the Hezbollah in Lebanon and Houthis in Yemen. On Sunday, Israel launched airstrikes against the Houthi militia in Yemen and dozens of Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon following the killing of the Hezbollah chief.

At least four people were killed and 29 wounded in Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's port of Hodeidah, said the Houthi-run health ministry. Israel said the strikes were a response to the Houthi missile attacks.

In Lebanon, as many as 105 people were killed in Israel's attack on Sunday crossing the total death toll in the country above 100. Over 6,000 people have been wounded in the past two weeks said Lebanon's health ministry without saying how many of the dead and injured were civilians.

However, he did not specify when he planned to speak with Netanyahu.
