Earthquake Jolts Nepal, No Casualty Reported

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said the earthquake had its epicentre located at Batulasain of Achham district, 450 km west of Kathmandu at 6:33 am.

An earthquake measuring 4.3 magnitude was reported in Nepal on Tuesday. However, there was no immediate report of any damage or causality by the tremor.

The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre said the earthquake had its epicentre located at Batulasain of Achham district, 450 km west of Kathmandu at 6:33 am.

A magnitude 4.1 quake was recorded in Baglung district also in western Nepal on March 8. In January, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 hit Tibet near the Nepalese border. The tremors were also felt in several parts of India, including Bihar and Assam.

Nepal is nestled in a geologically active region, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide, forming the Himalayas and making earthquakes a frequent occurrence.

2015 Nepal Earthquake

A massive earthquake hit the Gorkha district of Nepal in 2015. The devastating earthquake of 7.8 magnitude claimed the lives of nearly 9,000 people and wounded nearly 22,000 others. It also damaged over 800,000 houses and school buildings.

Its epicentre was east of Gorkha District at Barpak, Gorkha, roughly 85 km (53 mi) northwest of central Kathmandu, and its hypocenter was at a depth of approximately 8.2 km (5.1 mi). It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, making it the deadliest incident on the mountain. It also caused another massive avalanche in the Langtang valley.
