Donald Trump's Inauguration: When And Where Will The Ceremony Be Held, Who All Are Attending — All Details

US President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in for a second term on January 20, 2025, in the Capitol Rotunda, officially returning as the 47th President of the United States.

Donald Trump is all set to return to the White House for a second term after he officially takes over as the 47th president of the United States in Washington D.C. on Monday, January 20. The oath of office will be administered at 12 noon ET (10:30 pm IST), and the day will be marked by a formal swearing-in ceremony, musical performances, a celebratory parade, and several formal balls.

Departing from the convention where presidents-elect have taken the oath on the Capitol steps, Trump's swearing-in will be held inside the Capitol Rotunda amid sub-freezing temperatures forecast for Monday. This will mark the first in 40 years of modern history in the US when a president won't be sworn in on the Capitol steps.

The schedule for Trump's inauguration will have events starting from Sunday till Tuesday. Here's the full schedule:

January 19, Sunday

  • Wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
  • A MAGA 'Victory Rally' at Washington's Capital One Arena.
  • Candlelight dinner

January 20, Monday

  • Continuing the tradition followed by his predecessors, Trump and his family will attend a private prayer service at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
  • Tea at White House: Donald Trump along with the first lady, Melania Trump will have tea with outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady, Jill Biden.
  • Swearing-in ceremony: Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the oath of office to Trump.
  • Following the oath, Trump will deliver his inaugural address.
  • Presidential Parade: Around 7,500 participants will walk down Pennsylvania Avenue

January 21, Tuesday

  • The next day, Trump will attend National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral, marking the official conclusion of the inauguration celebrations.

Donald Trump Inauguration: Who All Will Attend?

Former US Presidents 

Former US Presidents Barrack Obama, George W Bush, and Bill Clinton will attend Trump's inauguration, who were also present during his first inauguration eight years ago, according to NBC News. However, they will not attend a traditional lunch with the president-elect.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is also said to be attending the event, according to The New York Times.

World Leaders 

From the world stage, China's Vice President Han Zheng will attend the event on behalf of Xi Jinping. Trump had invited Jinping also for the inauguration.

Leaders who share the same ideological orientation with Trump will attend his swearing-in ceremony including Argentina President Javier Milei and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro had intended to attend but his passport had been seized by his country's federal police and his request to make the trip was declined by a Brazilian Supreme Court justice.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also received the invite but would not be attending.

From the Asia-Pacific region, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya will be in attendance.

Celebrities 

Billionaires, businessmen and tech executives including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos would sit in a position of honour on the dais. Apple CEO Tim Cook and TikTok CEO Shou Chew have also been invited to sit on the dais, according to NYT. Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani will also attend the inauguration. 

Singer Carrie Underwood will perform at the event while several athletes and musicians will also be in attendance.
