WATCH: Video Of Chinese Sukhoi Fighter Jet Being Brought Down In Taiwan After Incursion In Latter's Airspace Goes Viral; China Rejects Claims
A Chinese Sukhoi Fighter Jet has crashed in Taiwan. It is still unclear if the crash was caused due to a technical failure or if the Taiwan security forces attacked it.
New Delhi: In a big setback to China, a Chinese Sukhoi fighter plane has reportedly crashed in Taiwan. According to the video that has just come in, the fighter jet seems to have crashed in an open area near a rural residential area. There is no information on how the crash occurred and it is not clear if the plane fell due to a technical malfunction or if it is a result of an attack by the Taiwanese military.
China has issued a statement rejecting the claims and has said that the video and the accompanying reports are untrue.
Russia built Sukhoi jets was first brought to China in 1991. China has been constantly using provocative moves around the Indian border and with other neighbouring countries. Earlier this week, media reports also said that China had deployed its J-20 stealth fighter to the Hotan airbase in Tibet. This was also tweeted by the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy who has tweeted that China was moving large numbers of Russian Sukhoi fighter jets to the Tibet border.
It is yet to be clear if today's crash is a result of its retaliation by the Taiwanese military forces whose relations with China are currently strained. China has yet to give any confirmation of the crash.
China’s relations with Taiwan have been strained as President Xi Jinping is interested in reclaiming the island nation which currently is a self-governing country. Recently China took offense after Czech Senate president Milos Vystrcil met Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday. According to the media reports, China has called the visit ‘an act of international treachery’ and said that the Czech leader had crossed ‘the red line’. The Chinese government also warned 'that the leader will pay a heavy price'. After the remarks, Germany has warned China to stop threatening Europe.
Since it is a developing story, more inputs are awaited.
