A Chinese taxi driver’s quick thinking helped police arrest a murder suspect. After boarding the taxi, the accused confessed to the driver about killing someone. Despite the shocking information, the driver remained composed.

According to the South Morning China Post (SCMP), the driver, Yin who belongs to Wuhan in Hubei province, had picked up a man in his 20s on November 14. The passenger wanted to be driven to Weifeng in eastern Shandong province which about about 1,100 km away. They agreed to a fare of 4,500 yuan (US$620). The passenger prepaid 4,000 yuan and was going to pay at the end of the ride.

Based on company policy in such long-distance trips, another driver joins to assist with the journey, Yin picked up another driver, Xia. After about 300 km into the ride, the passenger requested the driver to be quicker.

Xia reminded the passenger about the need to reach safely, Yin, reportedly told SCMP, that the man lowered his voice and said that he had killed a person and wanted to hurry back home to say goodbye to his family.

While Xia dismissed this as a joke, Yin grew suspicious. He said the passenger was wearing a mask and had a worried expression.

Soon after, Yin received a phone call from the police in Jingmen city in Hubei. They told him that the passenger was a murder suspected and they were tracking him and the taxi. Yin was asked to cooperate and stall the ride.

After hanging up, Yin pretended that it was just a random call. He then stopped at a charging station to charge his car and asked Xia to remain calm. This is when the police arrived and arrested the suspected.

On November 17, police travelled from Jingmen to Wuhan to present two pennant banners to Yin and Xia, along with a reward of 1,000 yuan (US$140) each for their bravery.
