3 Killed In Israeli Airstrike On Beirut Suburb, Israel Says Target Was Hezbollah Member

At least three people were killed and seven injured in Israeli airstrikes in Beirut’s suburbs. Israel said the strike targeted a Hezbollah member.

At least three people were killed, and seven were injured in Israeli airstrikes in the suburbs of Beirut in Lebanon on Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press (AP), this airstrike came without warning and just days after Israel launched an attack in the Lebanese capital, a Hezbollah stronghold known as the Dahiyeh, on Friday, marking the first such strike since a ceasefire ended fighting between Israeli forces and the Hezbollah militant group in November.

The Israeli military said that the airstrike targeted a Hezbollah member who had been assisting the Palestinian Hamas group in its attacks against Israel. The strike was carried out under the direction of Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic intelligence agency, as per the report.

Images and videos circulating on local and social media captured the aftermath of the strike. It showed extensive damage to the top three floors of an apartment building. Piles of debris were seen covering cars parked below. Ambulances were at the scene to recover casualties.

While speaking to Reuters, a witness said that there was no evacuation warning issued for the area ahead of the strike, and families fled in the aftermath to other parts of Beirut.

Lebanese President & Prime Minister On The Strikes

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly condemned Israel’s latest airstrike on Tuesday, calling it a “dangerous warning” that reflects premeditated intent against Lebanon. He said that Israel’s escalating “aggression” necessitates intensified diplomatic efforts and the mobilisation of international allies to uphold Lebanon’s full sovereignty.

According to Reuters, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also condemned the Israeli strike and said it was a flagrant breach of UN Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire arrangement. Nawaf said that he has been closely monitoring the aftermath of the strike in coordination with the ministers of defense and interior.

The US-mediated truce has appeared increasingly fragile in recent weeks. In January, Israel postponed a promised troop withdrawal, and in March, it reported intercepting rockets launched from Lebanon, prompting retaliatory strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and southern Lebanon.
