Who is Nadeem Abrar? LeT Terrorist Killed In Encounter In J&K Day After Arrest

Srinagar: A top commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Nadeem Abrar was arrested and killed on Tuesday morning during a fierce gunfight between militants and J&K forces in the Maloora area of Parimpora in Srinagar.

Several incriminating materials, including firearms and ammunition, have been recovered from the site, according to the Kashmir zone police.

"A Pakistani terrorist and top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abrar has been killed in the encounter with security forces at Malhoora Parimpora in Srinagar," IGP Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar confirmed in a tweet.

How did police plot the operation?

The police arrested Abrar during checking of vehicles at Parimpora on Monday and interrogated the terrorist who disclosed the location where he had kept his AK-47 rifle in Maloora locality.

On Parimpora naka (checkpost), a vehicle was stopped and their identity was asked. The person sitting at the back seat tried to open his bag and took out a grenade. The police party swiftly swung into action and grabbed the person sitting at the back seat. Both the driver and the person sitting at the back seat were taken into police custody. After taking off his mask, it was identified that he was terrorist Abrar, a top LeT commander," a police spokesman was quoted by news agency PTI.

Abrar was later taken to the house to recover the weapon (AK 47 rifle) after cordoning off the suspect's house. At that moment when one of his associates hiding inside the premises fired at the party which led to gun battle, in which LeT commander Abrar was killed.

In the initial round of fire, 3 CRPF personnel were injured and Abrar accompanying the search party also got wounded, the spokesman said.

The force was strengthened and they retaliated with heavy firing, he said.

"In the ensuing gunfire, the foreign terrorist who fired from inside the house got neutralised and Abrar also got killed. Two AK-47 rifles along with ammunitions were recovered from the site," he added.

Who is Nadeem Abrar?

  • Abrar is a Pakistani terrorist, who had been involved in several recent attacks on security forces and civilians in Kashmir.
  • LeT commander Nadeem Abrar Bhat alias Khalid was involved in "several killings”. Bhat was acting as the commander of Lashkar in central Kashmir and was active since 2018, the police added.
  • He has been linked to the killing of former special police officer Fayaz Ahmed, his wife, and his daughter at their home in the Tral area of the Pulwama district.
  • According to the police, Nadeem Abrar Bhat was also involved in the attack on CRPF at Lawaypora in March. In the attack, three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and the rifle was also snatched by the terrorists.
  • He was a resident of Narbal in Budgam of Central Kashmir.
