TVS Jupiter Grande - What’s Different?

We take a look at what the new special edition Jupiter offers and if it’s worth the extra premium

TVS Jupiter Grande - What’s Different?

TVS recently updated its Jupiter portfolio with a special edition, called the Jupiter Grande. Priced at Rs 59,648 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the disc variant, the Grande is Rs 2,000 dearer than the Jupiter Classic Edition. Its drum brake-equipped variant, however, at Rs 55,936 (ex-showroom Delhi), costs Rs 1,712 less than the Classic. With prices out of the way, it is now time to answer what extra you get for the additional moolah.

What's New -

All-new Paint Scheme

For the special edition model, TVS has introduced an all-new metallic blue paint scheme. Paired with the cross-stitched maroon seats, along with beige panels and chrome accents, the Grande will manage to grab some attention, unlike the standard TVS Jupiter.

LED Headlamps

While the TVS Jupiter is by no means less capable, it currently does trail behind the Honda Activa, in terms of sales. In order to bridge the gap, the Hosur-based manufacturer has introduced a host of modern features, including an LED headlamp along with a position lamp. Something which its closest competitor, the Activa 5G also gets.

Semi-digital Instrument Cluster

While the base-spec TVS Jupiter comes equipped with an analogue instrument console which offers only basic readouts, TVS has equipped the Grande with a semi-digital unit. Along with readouts like fuel range, odometer and tripmeter, the digital inset also displays the percentage of distance travelled in eco mode.

Updated suspension

While the front telescopic forks remain unchanged, TVS has updated the rear monoshock setup for preload adjustability.

What isn’t?

Same Engine

Powering the TVS Jupiter Grande is the same 109.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine as the standard Jupiter. This mill produces 8PS of power and 8Nm of torque, mated to a CVT transmission.

Same Braking Setup

Braking is handled by 130mm drum units on both ends, with a front disc brake offered on the more expensive variant.

Verdict -

TVS Jupiter Grande - What’s Different?

The TVS Jupiter Grande is a much-needed update for the ageing Jupiter. But is it worth the extra premium? Certainly. Will it manage to overthrow the Honda Activa’s dominance? Maybe not. But it will certainly help the Jupiter brand in cementing its position in the segment while fending off competition from the Hero Maestro Edge and the Yamaha Fascino.
