5 Houses Collapse In Mumbai After Gas Cylinder Blast, 4 Injured

Four people were injured after a gas cylinder blast led to the collapse of five houses in Mumbai's Chembur.

FIve houses collapsed and four poeple were injured after a gas cylinder exploded in Mumbai's Chembur on Wednesday. Civil officials told news agency PTI that 11 people were rescued following the collapse. Four people sustained injuries in the incident and were admitted to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi, news agency ANI reported citing Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.

Visuals from the spot showed the destroyed buildings with collapsed staircases.

The blast took place at a house at Old Barrack near Golf Club in the Chembur area at 7:50 am. The blast was followed by the collapse of four to five two-storey structures, as reported by PTI. Fire brigade, police, civic staff, ambulance service and other agencies were soon pressed into to contain the situation.

According to the Times of India, the injured were identified as Vikas Ambhore (50), Ashok Ambhore (27), Savita Ambhore (47) and Rohit Ambhore (29).

In another incident today, an explosion in a storage tanker led to a massive fire at a chemical factory in Surat which left 24 workers injured. The fire broke out in the factory at Sachin GIDC area in Surat, ANI reported.

Earlier on November 18, eight people were injured in a cylinder blast in a house in Mumbai's Bandra. Several of those injured sustained severe burns affecting 35 to 40 percent of their bodies.
