Background

Cold weather persisted in Delhi on Monday, with light rainfall in parts and a minimum temperature of 9.6 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees Celsius above normal, according to the IMD. Fog thinned, improving visibility, though dense fog had previously led to flight and train disruptions. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 300 metres visibility at 5:30 AM. The IMD predicts cloudy skies with light rain and a maximum temperature of 18u00b0C. Delhi's AQI stood at 320 (very poor) at 9 AM. The CAQM revoked stage 3 GRAP curbs due to improved air quality but maintained stages 1 and 2 restrictions in Delhi-NCR.

Maharashtra Braces for Cold Wave with Sharp Drop in Temperatures from January 7-9

A fresh northerly burst is expected to cause a significant drop in temperatures across Maharashtra from January 7-9. Mumbai and northern Konkan will experience minimum temperatures of 14-15°C, with interior MMR dropping to 12-13°C. A short cold wave will grip Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune and north interior regions, with temperatures falling to single digits, as low as 5°C in isolated rural spots. Maximum temperatures in the interiors will range between 26-29°C.
