World Youth Skills Day: PM Narendra Modi To Deliver Video Message On July 15 On Skill India Mission
The National Skill Development Mission is an initiative of the Government of India which was officially launched by PM Modi on July 15 in 2015 on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to deliver a video message to the nation on World Youth Skills Day on Wednesday, July 15. According to the News Agency ANI, a digital conclave has been organized by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) to mark the occasion.
The National Skill Development Mission is an initiative of the Government of India which was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 1, five years back. The scheme was officially launched by PM Modi on July 15 in 2015 on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
The Mission has been developed to create convergence across sectors and states in terms of skill training activities. Further, to achieve the vision of ‘Skilled India’, the National Skill Development Mission would not only consolidate and coordinate skilling efforts, but also expedite decision making across sectors to achieve skilling at scale with speed and standards.
It will be implemented through a streamlined institutional mechanism driven by MSDE, which is responsible for co-ordination of all skill development efforts across the country, removal of disconnect between demand and supply of skilled manpower, building the vocational and technical training framework, skill up-gradation, building of new skills, and innovative thinking not only for existing jobs but also jobs that are to be created.

Updating the progress under the mission in past four years, Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey in March had revealed that around 40 per cent of the 73 lakh candidates trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana between 2016 and 2020 were women candidates while Jan Sikshan Sansthans have 90 per cent female trainees.
He said the flagship Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana strives to promote increased participation of women in the workforce through appropriate skilling and gender mainstreaming of skills.
