West Bengal Extends Lockdown Till June 15; Class 12 Exams In July End, Class 10 Papers In Aug Second Week

Kolkata: Owing to the rising cases of Coronavirus, West Bengal government on Thursday announced extension of lockdown in the state till June 15 in order to contain the infection.

Under the ongoing lockdown-like restrictions imposed in Bengal, there is an indefinite prohibition functioning of shopping malls, markets, restaurants and bars, gyms, and swimming pools, which will continue till July 15.

Announcemen On West Bengal Class 10, Class 12 Board Exams:

While making the announcement, Banerjee also said that West Bengal Higher Secondary examinations will be held by the end of July. While Class 10 board exams will be held in the second week of August.

Meanwhile, extending the lockdown Banerjee has sought full cooperation from people of Bengal. "Please don't call this a lockdown. Covid numbers have come down. For economy's sake there will be no total lockdown," she said.

Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led Bengal government's decision to extend the lockdown comes on a day when the state reported as many as 16,225 Covid-19 cases in past 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 13,18, 203.

The death toll mounted to 14,827 after 153 more fatalities were reported from different parts of the state. 

West Bengal now has 1,23,377 active cases, while 11,79,999 patients have recovered from the disease, including 19,071 since Tuesday.
