New Delhi: In a bizarre Diwali celebration in Gujarat’s Panchmahal, people sprayed each other with blazes of firecrackers. A video of the unique but precarious tradition is gong viral. In the video people can be seen aiming at each other with burning firecrackers and showering the target with flames.
In the video, a group of six or seven can be seen pitched in a fireworks battle while a crowd watches the game from distance.
It is said to be an age-old tradition of Vejalpur village in Panchmahal which is still being followed, where people hurl burning firecrackers at one another. The video has elicited surprised reactions from people.
The video has come at a time at a time when the government is focusing on restricting firecrackers’ use in festivals, keeping in mind the deteriorating air quality in many cities.
This practice which involves abundant use of firecrackers is not only a threat to environment but also poses threat to the lives of those who participate in it.
