Notably, the World Environment Day is marked by governments, private organisations, civil society as well as individuals in a bid to protect the environment.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the nodal agency that organises and supports all events across the world. This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 1974.

On the World Environment Day, several events are organised around the theme set by the UNEP in order to promote community involvement for the cause.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address an event on the ‘Save Soil Movement’ at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Sunday at 11 am on the occasion of World Environment Day, said the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday.

As per the press release by the PMO, ‘Save Soil Movement’ is a global initiative to increase awareness about deteriorating soil health and bring about a conscious response to remove it.

The press release added, “The movement was started by Sadhguru in March 2022, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey passing through 27 countries.”
