Congress party members and senior leaders staged protests against Enforcement Directorate questioning Rahul Gandhi and the Agnipath scheme at several places in the national capital on Monday.
New Delhi: Members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Monday blocked railway tracks at Delhi’s Shivaji Bridge railway station in protests against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case. The IYC members also protested against the Centre’s new recruitment scheme for the armed forces, Agnipath.

Senior Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot & other Congress leaders and workers staged a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar while some party workers staged a protest at Delhi’s Connaught Place.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi is supposed to appear before the ED for fourth round of questioning in an alleged money laundering matter in the National Herald case.
Fresh summons were issued by the ED to Rahul Gandhi to join the investigation on Monday after the latter had requested to defer interrogation from June 17 to June 20 citing his mother and party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi’s health condition.
Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital on Sunday following Covid-related complications. The 75-year-old had tested positive on June 2, has also been summoned for questioning by the ED in connection with the case on June 23.
Regarding the protest against Centre’s Agnipath scheme, a massive traffic jam was witnessed on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway amid calls for ‘Bharat Band’ by some organisations. A nationwide call for Bharat Bandh comes after five days of violent agitation in around 10 states, including politically crucial Uttar Pradesh, against the Agnipath scheme.

The protests continued as Lieutenant General Anil Puri on Sunday said that the scheme would not be rolled back.
On Sunday, 483 trains including 229 mail/express trains and 254 passenger trains were cancelled due to the agitations.
