UP Election 2022: Swami Prasad Maurya Set To Join SP, Announces Date After Quitting BJP
On Tuesday, Maurya, who joined the governing BJP from the BSP, resigned his position as labour minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led state administration claiming neglect of backward sections.
New Delhi: Swami Prasad Maurya, who resigned as a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government the day before, said on Wednesday that he will join the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) on January 14 i.e. Friday.
“I will be joining the Samajwadi Party on 14th January. I have not received calls from any small or big politician. If they were cautious on time and worked on public issues, the BJP would not have to face this,” Maurya was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle.

On Tuesday, Maurya, who joined the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), resigned his position as labour minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led state administration claiming neglect of backward sections.
Following his resignation, the senior politician, a prominent grassroots-level OBC leader, met with former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Following the meeting, Yadav issued a tweet congratulating the now-former minister. However, the SP made no official declaration confirming Maurya's admission into the party.
Maurya is expected to be accompanied by at least four MPs who resigned from the BJP in his support. While three of the four resigned right once, the fourth, Vinay Shakya, was reportedly 'abducted' by his brother.
However, the police and Shakya himself explained that he was in reality at his Etawah property, and the MLA also expressed his support for Swami Prasad Maurya.
